| Mrs. Richardson's first grade class has been learning about treating people fairly and everyone being equal. Martin Luther King Jr.'s speech inspired us to show what discrimination means to us as first graders. The skit was divided into three scenes. Some of the children were on a bus, at a school and in a restaurant (Cafe' 1st Grade). The remaining children asked if they could join their classmates. They were first told no, based on their hair color or if they were boy or girl. Then we discussed how it felt to be told no for such a silly reason. We did the skit again, and this time when their classmates asked to join them they were greeted with an enthusiastic YES! We believe the world is a better place due to the work of Martin Luther King Jr. |
