Meet Mrs. Munter

Welcome to kindergarten. My name is Mrs. Joan Munter. I teach an extended

day kindergarten class and teach music to all four sections of kindergarten

in our building.

My life is happy and full because I wear several "hats". I am a wife, a

mother, a grandma, a teacher, a youth leader, a minister and a friend. I

love every part of my life.

I graduated from Graceland University, in Lamoni, Iowa. My teaching career

began in 1969, in Decatur County, Iowa. The next year my husband and I

moved to Salem, and I began teaching at Hawthorn School the year it opened.

When we had our first child, I wanted to stay at home with him. After three

children, I returned to teaching when the youngest was in first grade in

1990. I have been in kindergarten ever since.

My favorite things about teaching in my present position are watching my

students begin to LOVE reading, and the chance to teach them about different

cultures around the world. Our enrichment program includes four rotations -

art, cultural diversity, games, and music. We learn new languages and play

instruments native to each culture. I find out new things about our world

every day and it is so exciting.

Someone said, "When you find what you really want to do, you don't have to

work any more". That is the way I feel about my time with my

kindergarteners.
