The Scoop on Mrs. Maxey
My name is Chris Maxey and I am a first grade teacher at Salem Elementary District 111. This is my tenth year teaching, and I have loved every minute of it! Everyday is a new day filled with learning and excitement! The kids continuously teach me as I teach them! I grew up in Salem and graduated from Salem Grade and High School. My husband, Mark, is a manager for a rock quarry in Mode, Illinois (a subsidiary of Shakespeare Oil Company in Salem). We have three great kids, Lucas, Jacob, and Emily. Lucas, 19, is a sophomore at SIU-Edwardsville majoring in pharmacy, Jacob, 16, will be a sophomore at SCHS this year. Emily, 14, will be in eighth grade at Franklin Park. They keep us BUSY with softball, soccer, volleyball, basketball, swim team, and church events! I can't forget to mention an important member of our family, Woody, our chocolate lab. After staying home several years, I went back to college to fulfill a lifelong dream of becoming a teacher! I graduated from McKendree University with a Bachelors of Science in Education in May 2002. In December 2007 I completed my Masters of Arts in Teaching and Learning with an emphasis in Reading at NOVA Southeastern University. I could not have accomplished any of this without my supportive family! In my "free" time I like to spend time with family and friends. I also LOVE to watch HGTV and read when I get the chance! Honestly there is not a lot of free time in my life, but I am thankful for that! In five years my children will be grown, so I'm going to enjoy the go, go, go while I can! I am looking forward to teaching your child this year! I want you to know first and foremost, that I love what I do! Your child will learn how to read this year! Learning to read is the MOST IMPORTANT factor in your child's success in life! With your help and support, your child will accomplish SO MUCH this year!
