2011 Art Club Goals/ Regulations

I implore you to understand that the art club is not to teach you the fundamentals/ principles of art (since this is done in art class); however, to advance the artistic talent that you already possess. With this in mind, I am thrilled to assist you with your interest in the visual arts.

 Art should be a relaxing activity and the art club will reflect this philosophy; however, there are a few guidelines that I would like to iron out before you completely commit to this organized function. The meetings will be held on ____________ from 3:35-4:15p.m.  Since this is an organized school function, it is expected that you maintain a level of seriousness with this activity. In other words, I would expect that you are punctual and eager to attend the weekly meetings without hesitations. With the limited amount of spaces available, I am hoping to do some exciting projects outside of the typical art class, so your attendance is required on a weekly basis. Failure to do so may result in your removal from the art club roaster. (2 absences will be allowed- excused or not).

 A permission slip is required to be filled out by a parent/ guardian prior to showing up for the weekly meetings.. The permission slip will give your parent a break down of my expectations and fulfill your enrollment guidelines for officially becoming an active member of the 2011 (8th grade)art club. The inability to fulfill this simple requirement will result in an automatic removal from the art club roaster. A follow-up correspondence to your parent/ guardian will be conducted by me prior to our 1st meeting.

 Making sure that club members are getting home safely, students are expected to have some type of “pick-up” arrangement established before enrolling in the art club. If a child is allowed to walk home, I would greatly appreciate it if your parent/ guardian notifies me by signing the “my child has permission to walk home after art club”, located on the supplemental sheet. By signing this form, your families are aware of the dismissal procedures and should make the monitoring of you much more comfortable and safer for students and families, alike. If you are to be picked-up by a family member, please have your parent/ guardian indicate this on the supplemental sheet. Once again, this is for the safety of YOU!

 Since art is better when it’s messy, I would greatly suggest that the participating artist bring either an old shirt or purchase an art smock to help eliminate any unnecessary stains on clothes.

Electronic/ cell phone usage is permitted in art club but with much discretion. Mp3 players are permitted to be used during art club, for your own personal enjoyment, but be respectful to others and use headphones. Cell phones are allowed to be on and allowed to be used at the end of art club session to call home for a ride. TEXTING DURING ART CLUB IS PROHIBITED.
